Introduction

I am Andry Jong, an International Student in Foothill College. Originally born in Indonesia in 1986, this is my second year in Foothill College, and in the United States of America. I am hoping that I will be able to transfer to the closest four-year-university (Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, or San Jose SU) as soon as fall arrives. I am, actually, pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. However, at the same time, I am trying to get an Associates Degree in Mathematics from Foothill College also.

This ePortfolio will focus on one of the subjects I am interested in: Mathematics. The reason why I want to emphasis my first ePortfolio on this subject is because this is what I am doing right now. I am pursuing my degree in mathematics. I would like to try to make this subject more interesting for everybody, since people used to think that mathematics is extremely boring or, moreover, useless. Hence, in this ePortfolio, readers will be able to see a lot of brief summaries of college-level mathematics courses such as Calculus, Elementary Differential Equation, and Linear Algebra. Not only will I provide summaries of those courses, I will also give examples of real life applications of those subjects.

Some people say that if someone is good in mathematics, one will be able to understand musical theories more easily. However, more people would say that it is not possible for a course such as mathematics to be related to something as abstract as arts. Here, I would like to make an analysis on the inter-relation between mathematics and music; of how every single theories in music is related to mathematics

Since this ePortfolio not only focuses on my achievement academically, I also provide my goals and past goals. These sections give the reader the chance to know me better, since both sections do not only cover my academic goals, but also personal, leadership, and long range goals. I also made explanations of how my goals have changed, completed, or failed as time goes. Also, how my failures can make me more motivated in stead of discouraged.

In order to give the reader an even better sense of who I am, I provide this ePortfolio with my personal blog, where people will be able to see my progress in weekly basis. Hence, it will give the reader the better and deeper knowledge of how my goals change due to time. At last, there is a section which called "The Journey" which was originally one of my assignments in the Honors English Seminar Class in Foothill College called "The Quest," which describes my motivations and advancements in getting my Bachelors Degree in Computer Science.

All of those described upon will come in the "Table of Contents" as links, to make it easier for the readers to navigate this ePortfolio. I also put some other links to websites that provides more detailed information of the mathematics courses that are being summarized.

This ePortfolio is open for everybody who would like to know more about these subjects. I am also very open for any suggestions and comments. Moreover, I hope everybody enjoy reading this ePortfolio.

My Journey
This is one of the assignments in my English Honors Seminar class. The main focus is actually in my journey towards achieving my Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. Even though it does not related to Mathematics, I believe this describes me and the reason for my choices a lot.

Addendum
This is where I give credits and thank you's to the people that made this ePortfolio happens. Readers can find this section just under this Table of Contents.

Addendum

Here, I want to say thank you and give credits and also recognition to Professor Scott Lankford; the person who made this ePortfolio happens. This quarter in Foothill, I took an English Honors Seminar class which focuses on making an ePortfolio. Prof. Lankford's weekly assignment helps me a lot in understanding more about ePortfolio, and how important ePortfolio is in this world that, I believe, is advancing still. Using simple and fun assignments, he teaches us, his students, a lot. I did not realize how much I have learnt from him, until I saw my own ePortfolio, and my classmates' ePortfolios. They are so amazing, and beautiful, and inspiring. Hence, I cannot thank Prof. Lankford enough for this knowledge. I believe I will take this knowledge for the rest of my life.

Secondly, I want to give credit also for Mr. John Sawka, whose quote I have used in the "Mathematics" section. He was my first mathematics instructor in Foothill College, and his passion in mathematics inspires me a lot.

Third, I want to say thank you to Mr. Maarten Kalisvaart, my Math 1C and Math 2B instructor. He is so energetic and motivative when he is teaching that his drive motivates me a lot in learning deeper mathematics. One of my best teachers, I cannot thank him enough.

Last but not least, I want to give credits for all of the works stated in the "Links" section. I would have not been able to do this if I have not "stolen" all of those wonderful works. Mathematics is not an easy subject to comprehend the depth of it. However, if we know the use of it, it does not only touch the field of science. Even the highest mathematics class in college, Linear Algebra, affects economics and accounting field just as much as it does to physics and other science field.

With this, I would like to say thank you for all the people above. My journey would not have come this far if it is not because of them all.
